St Andrews Ashingdon
Brief history of the church.
St Andrews Church Ashingdon has a long history. It is a beautiful, ancient and picturesque church, believed to be built by Cnut in 1020 to commemorate the battle of Ashingdon in 1016. In 1951, following reconstruction of the roof, the Church was attended by Prince Georg of Denmark and the Church was presented with a Danish standard, a model of a longboat and a diptych depicting images of Cnut attempting to hold back the water and his conversion to Christianity.
